- Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Pharmaceutical Operations for France in 1985
- COO of Pharmaceutical operations World Wide in 1987
- COO of Rhone-Poulenc Rorer in 1990.
- Chairman and CEO of Pasteur Merieux Connaught in 1994 up to 2002 (world vaccine leader), and was a member of the Executive Commitee of Rhone-Poulenc. In 1999, he was appointed deputy to the CEO of Aventis Pharma.
- Jean-Jacques BERTRAND served as Chairman of the French “Syndicat National de l’Industrie Pharmaceutique”, (today LEEM) in 2000 and 2001.
- Since January 2003, Jean-Jacques BERTRAND was Chairman of CANVAC, a Canadian network for research and development of vaccines. He is Vice President of the supervisory board of GUERBET S.A. He is a member of the board of the Fundation for Medical Research .Chevalier dans l’ordre du Mérite et dans l’ordre de la Légion d’Honneur.
